Try the Anti Snoring Devices by SleepDreamz!
Considering that half the population snores, it would be a surprise if anyone didn’t know what snoring was. Even if you don’t do it yourself, you’ve likely heard your spouse or friends snoring in their sleep. Snoring is not abnormal and occurs relatively common. In general, moderate snoring poses no real danger or harm, but anti snoring devices can be used to reduce and manage snoring.
What may not be so commonly known is that snoring does not start in the nose, but the rear of the airway when the oropharynx is constricted by the tongue during sleep. As muscles become more relaxed (often occurring as you reach deeper levels of sleep) the airway gets smaller. Because of this, there is more air turbulence as you breath and your throat vibrates, causing the snoring sound.
Manage your Sleep Better with Anti Snoring Devices
While snoring is not necessarily dangerous, it can be in certain circumstances and can be a nuisance for yourself and others. In order to reduce and manage your snoring habits, a range of anti snoring devices can be used. In some cases, snoring can be a sign of other health problems. If you’re experiencing regular or exasperating snoring, you should seek out a medical professional and ensure there are no other medical conditions contributing to your snoring.
Types of Anti Snoring Devices
When choosing the best type of device, you want to make sure that it will suit your needs and lifestyle. One of the most important things to consider when purchasing the device for you is the comfort. Not only is this important for giving you the best experience, but this will also ensure that you are more likely to wear it and will, therefore, help to ensure its success.
Most of these devices are made of a thermoplastic. This like a rubbery plastic that has some pliability or flexibility. They feel and look like sports mouthguards. However, sport mouth guards and bruxism mouth devices to not usually move the jaw forward. They work in different ways.
Tongue Stabilizing Devices (TSD) works by sucking the tongue forward or stabilizing the tongue so that it is out of the way. By pulling the tongue forward or backward, more space is created and your throat is opened up, allowing more airflow and decreasing the likelihood and occurrence of snoring.
The benefits of TSDs is that they do not cause as much discomfort to the jaw as other types of devices. They are also less likely to cause TMJ or tooth shifting because they have less impact on the jaw. Those that are missing teeth or have dental problems could benefit from using a TSD as opposed to other devices.
One common complaint of TSDs is that they can cause discomfort due to its restriction on the tongue. On top of this, it can cause more salivation. This is common for all anti snoring devices as any foreign object in your mouth draws out saliva in order to break it down.
Mandibular Advancing Devices (MAD) / Jaw Advancing Device (JAD) function by shifting the lower jaw forward. Much like a TSD, this opens the airway and reduces the vibration at the back of throat, effectively reducing snoring. These devices also move the tongue and mandible as well, clearing your airway more effectively.
MADs used for more serious cases, like sleep apnea, move the jaw forward, making the most room for airflow and reducing snoring the most. For more serious cases, using a MAD may be the most beneficial, as it can reduce snoring more than TSDs.
It is important to note that because these devices move the jaw forward, there is a chance that it can cause teeth to shift as well as discomfort and even pain. If you wear the device long enough, these problems could prove to be long-term and may require correction. On top of this, they will cause you regular discomfort if you are using them regularly and they are shifting your jaw excessively. Because of this, people that have pre-existing dental problems may want to consider other alternatives.
Fitting Your Anti Snoring Devices
Most TSDs come in one size that fits all users. Depending on the type, you may need some fitting done, but it is not common. Most are able to use immediately after taking them out of the box. In contrast, although some MAD devices can be used right away, most MAD devices require some fitting.
More advanced, better performing devices use the boil and bite method, which allows you to fit the device precisely to your mouth alone. With this process, the device is boiled in water for a number of seconds to make it more moldable Once it’s more malleable, it is put in your mouth and adheres to the shape of your mouth. After it cools down, it will fit exclusively to your mouth and will ensure a custom fit.
Although it is not advised to do so repeatedly, many of these devices can be refitted a few times if they are adjusted or the initial impression was incorrect.
